PRESENCE OF MIND AND TIMELY INTERVENTION SAVES THE DAY
Apollo Staff Nurse Saves 5 Lives, including His OwnShowing extraordinary courage and displaying the exceptional presence of mind, Mr. Bhuvaneshwaran, male staff nurse with the Heart & Lung Unit of Apollo Hospitals-Chennai, saved 5 lives, including his own.
On November 12, 2021 (check date), when the Tamil Nadu Government announced a Red Alert in Chennai for incessant rains, Bhuvaneshwaran boarded the hospital bus bound for Central Station from where he planned to take a train to reach home at the earliest.
Somewhere near Aykar Bhawan, when the bus was nearing a traffic signal, he realized that the bus was moving in a zig-zag manner. Sensing trouble, he checked on the driver and found him falling off to one side of the seat. Bhuvaneshwaran immediately understood that the driver was having a seizure. He took control of the steering wheel, put his leg on the clutch, and put off the engine, which stopped the bus.
Bhuvaneshwaran then got the driver pulled out of the seat and managed his airway. In the meanwhile, he asked others to call for an Ambulance. Apollo Ambulance arrived and the driver was transferred to Apollo Main Hospital for further treatment.
Sometimes we know it all, but to act on time – when our knowledge and expertise is needed – requires special aptitude. In this case, a fresher displayed outstanding courage while confronting an emergency medical situation outside the hospital. Bhuvaneshwaran showed us all the way by diagnosing the problem immediately and administering first aid and doing the needful to get the victim to the hospital.
His presence of mind, timely intervention and act of courage not only save the diver’s life but also saved 5 other lives including his own.
